Ephesians 2:19-22 “Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit”.
We live in a world of shifting borders, allegiances and religions. Today persons may consider themselves Africans today and Americans tomorrow, pagans today, Christian tomorrow. Â In a time of transition Christ provides one place where there is a solid foundation.
When we come together as people of God, those who were once far away from God are brought close. Â Those who have known God forever, include as brothers and sisters, those who are new to the faith family. Â We are able to do this because it is our calling as the people of God, and because we are rooted in Christ.
So how do we hold this unwieldy body together? Â We are built on the foundation of the Apostles and Prophets. Â Those who have gone before us have shown us the way and invite us to walk the Jesus Way as they did.
In this Lenten journey you and I are invited to become a dwelling where God’s spirit lives.  Your Lenten disciplines, the things you give up and the practices you add are part of making you into the people of God and all of us together into the church.
Reflection: How do you promote unity in the body of Christ?
