Revelation 2:4 “Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love”.
What time do you consider as the highest point of your Christian life? The time that you felt more close to The Lord. Let us remember when we first gave our lives to Jesus Christ? How exciting it was to learn that our sins have been forgiven, bitterness came crashing down, and we were flooded with joy and peace that passed all understanding. With time, we sometimes become too used to our new found faith and take our walk with Christ for granted. Spiritual disciplines like prayer and Bible Studies become routine and we may even lose the willingness to share our faith with others. This is what happened to the church at Ephesus. They lost their first love.
There is still hope for us if we have lost our first love. The instructions that Jesus gave to the church at Ephesus is for us as well, “Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent and do the first works . . .” (Revelation 2:5). Let us therefore remember our love when we first gave our lives to Christ, repent of our short comings, and then go back to where we once were with The Lord. Let us be more willing to give our time, energy and resources to support the mission of God. I believe God is asking each of us in this Lent season to remember, repent and return to the one who first loved us and gave His life for us, our Lord and savior Jesus Christ.
Reflection: Are you excited about your walk with God? What steps are you taking this Lent to grow in your Christian life?
