Day 20 of Lent – Power to Tear Down and Build

  • by

Jeremiah 1:10 “See, today I appoint you over nations and kingdoms to uproot and tear down, to destroy and overthrow, to build and to plant”

What will you do when you suddenly realize that you have power to do all you want in life? It may be an interesting place to be. Some of us will immediately cause the pandemic that is hovering over all of us to cease. Others will make sure that they enjoy the life they have always hoped for and dreamed of. Those who are interested in social justice may probably stamp out corruption, nepotism, racism, inequality and criminal activities in our society.

The scripture today hints us of some amount of power that God gives to those who God calls. Power to uproot and tear down, power to build and to plant. This God ordained power however, is not for selfish gains nor for personal vendetta but is power to bring to pass the purposes of God.

What are some of the things that we need to uproot and tear down in this period of Lent? Are there things that we may need to intentionally plant, build or restore? Let us remember that we are children of the Most High God. So let us not look down and allow the challenges of life to overwhelm us. Let us look up and use our God given power through prayer to secure our lives, bring deliverance to many and establish the purposes of God.

Reflection: What do you need to uproot and what do you need to plant in these challenging times?

Reading: Jeremiah 1:1-19
