Day 31 of Lent- “Do you have room for the Word, in your heart?”

  • by

John 8:37 “I know you are Abraham’s descendants. Yet you are ready to kill me, because you have no room for my word.”

Have you ever wondered why Churches are filled on Sunday’s but sometimes almost empty during Bible Studies or Prayer meetings?  I have wondered about this most of my life.  Is it because many do not have room in their hearts for the word of God?

The word of God is critical in our Christian journey. It is through the word that we build solid faith and confidence in God (Romans 10:17), it is through the word that we get to know the will of God and our responsibilities as children of God. The word of God is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path (Psalm 119:105). It is the word of God that reveals the mind of God to us. I think our Lord, Rabbi Jesus Christ shared this teaching with the Jews when He said in John Chapter 8 Verse 38: “I am telling you what I have seen in the Father’s presence, and you do what you have heard from your father”.

In this period of uncertainties we need the word of God to guide and guard us. May I submit that we allow the word of God to dwell in us richly as we journey through life. Let us desire the sincere word of The Lord so we can grow thereby (1Peter 2:2).

Reflection: Do you have room for the Word, in your heart? What will you do to make room for the word of God this Lent?

Reading: John 8:31-41
