Day 9 of Lent- Search Me, O God

  • by

Text: Psalm 139: 23-24: “Search me, O God, and know my heart. Examine me, and know my anxious thoughts, and see if there be any offensive way within me, and lead me in the way everlasting.” Psalms 139:23-24 TLV

It is easy to lose perspective of ourselves in this fallen world. Our measure of righteousness sometimes gets derailed and we begin to assume that we are perfect because of the good works we do.  We forget our sinful nature and the need for God to constantly sanctify our hearts.

As believers it is critical we grow spiritually. The only way we can attain this spiritual maturity is by allowing ourselves to be conformed to the image of God. We need to humbly ask the Lord to properly align our thinking, feeling, mindset and actions with God’s will. Like David, we have to invite God to search the depths of our hearts to reveal our brokenness in order to draw us back to the path of righteousness.

During this period of Lent as we seek the face of God through prayers and fasting, let us allow our hearts and minds to be illuminated by the Power of God. It doesn’t matter how messed up we are, for there is no sin that is too big or deep for God to redeem. Our Father in heaven is ever ready to cleanse us and make us whiter than snow.  Therefore, let us implore the Holy Spirit to guide us each day so we can wholly submit our hearts for thorough cleansing through confession and renunciation of our sins. Lent gives us the opportunity to do so! The period opens the doors of our hearts a little wider to connect with our Lord in order to experience the overflowing Grace of our God.

Reflection: What are you struggling with and how do you seek redemption through Christ?

Reading: Psalm 139:1-24
